ABOUT THE BOOK
Life isn't always fair, and that’s something that Llewellyn Gardner knows about first hand. His life was on the fast track until one night of extreme passion changed everything.
Now eight years later, he’s still living with the aftershocks of that night. Everywhere he turns or runs, there’s another reminder. What the hell do you do when you try to drown your demons only to find out they can swim?
Shane Smith, Jr. owner of Smith Construction, could see the emotional turmoil within his new employee — it’s why he hired him. There was something about the gorgeous, misunderstood man with the overly expressive eyes that came to their small town with a past no one was willing to overlook. Shane could see the good in Llewellyn, and those eyes of his were a clear window to his soul. Shane wasn't going to let the man live a future of solitude because his past had been plagued with deceit.
Llewellyn wasn’t sure what to think about Shane. After years of protecting himself from being tricked twice, he was now faced with worry again. What would happen to him if Shane didn’t believe his truth, and walked away? Llewellyn wasn’t sure he’d be able to survive being left alone. Again.
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Feels, feels, then more feels!! When you thought it was done, she threw in one more feel!! (sounded kind of kinky)
Llewellyn, poor Llew. I knew right a way going into the story that something bad was going to happen. Ypu wanted to yell at Llew "nooo, don't go over there," but, he did, and we got our story. One so gut wrenching and full of injustice. You're probably thinking, why read it then? Well, Llewellyn is such an amazing guy, you can't help but NOT follow his story. He meets some pretty impressive characters along the way.
While in jail, he meets Ace, who becomes an important staple in his life, and Doc. If it weren't for these 2, he'd probably be dead, so you can't help but love these characters.
Of course there's the ones you love to hate, and oooh do you hate them! *cough* the sheriff and Moss *cough*
But these events help shape Llew into the gentle giant that he is. For such a big man, he seems to have such a gentle and soft soul. I thought he was beautiful, even through his panic attacks.
When he gets out and moves away, he meets the sweetest lady ever, Ms. Pat. She is such a charming character you can't help but love this woman. She takes him in and shows him not everyone will judge him by what they 'think' they know. I had a lot of respect for this character. I am also strangely craving sweet potato pie. During this time he also meets Shane Smith, Jr.
The sparks fly between these 2 and Shane helps Llew in so many ways, by accepting him and believing him, and just letting him be himself. This coupling was passionate and sweet and also, very steamy. The right amount of everything.
I couldn't gave been happier with the ending. I don't want to give anything away, but it ended as it should, and with a big day HEA, thank gaw! Cuz my heart wouldn't be able to take anything other than that!
AE gives great story in anything she writes. Whether its about chefs, cops, military men, doctors, or architects. Her horizons are broad and she nails them all. She's one of my favorite story tellers and I am a fan of this sweet lady for life!

Let me start with W_O_W!!!!! This book blew me away, it literally had me shaking the shit out of my Kindle @ 9%. I was so pissed I had to walk away from this book. Ms. Via goes to a whole new level with this book, it’s the best story telling from her to date IMO.
I’m so thankful that she gave us Llew, he made my heart hurt, he makes me want to be a better person. For him to go through everything that was forced on him in his young life and to face his new life while being “defined by deceit”, and coming out on the other side a better man is truly extraordinary.
It goes to show that anyone faced with adversary can win, even if all the cards are stacked in another’s favor. Llew’s brother Leslie is also an exceptional person, sticking by his brother, whom had lost all hope, keeping his spirits up and just being the loving big brother he needed, was a breath of fresh air. Highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a little angst and to really feel great when you read THE END.
A.E. Via is still a fairly new author in the beautiful gay erotic genre. Her writing embodies everything from hopelessly romantic to spicy to scandalous. Her stories often include intriguing edges and twists that take readers to new, thought-provoking depths.
When she’s not clicking away at her laptop, she devotes herself to her family—a husband and four children.
While this is only her seventh novel, she has plenty more to come. So stalk her – she loves that - because the male on male action is just heating up!
