The Seas Catch Fire by L.A. Witt ~ A Review by Googly

If The Seas Catch Fire
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Trust your heart if the seas catch fire, live by love though the stars walk backwards"-E.E. Cummings

didn't fully grasp what that meant going into the book. Coming out of the book, it almost makes me misty eyed..

Sergei is a gay male stripper with a side job as a hitman. I know right? totally sounds badass!

One night at the club, there's a ruckus in the Ally so Sergei goes to inspect. What he finds is one Domenico who's getting quite a pounding. Sergei takes the situation into his own hands to get rid of these goons, and in the process, saving Dom's life... little did he know this would turn his life around.

Dom's sure he dreamt up a man in tight leather shorts saving his life, but after he recovers physically, he goes back to club to question Sergei to see if and what he knows about his attackers. Only, once he goes back, he's hooked on this beautiful man, and thus starts a very risky affair.

I loved the idea of this book. The twists, the deception, the murder. It's what you expect from mafia romance. Add in the twist of a gay made man and you've got yourself the mother of all dramas. Sergei is just all around awesome with his fearlessness and ninja like skills and their chemistry is off the charts. Dom is an unexpected unassuming character, at first...until the story digs deeper into his upbringing and "training". There's a lot of depth here and the guys are easy to sympathize with, even if they are killers.

What I didn't love so much was there seemed to be a lot of repetition, even with words in certain parts. There were too many nights with affairs and not enough getting on with the story, too much " real time" going on. There were also a few loop holes, but for the sake of fiction and drama, I am able to look beyond all that and enjoy it for what it's meant to be.

All in all I really enjoyed this book. Sergei and Dom are wonderful and I'm glad I got to meet them.

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn't lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies.

She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don't tell Lauren. And definitely don't tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut...
