“Another fabulous book that will steal a piece of your heart. Loved Arik and Kellus.” - 5 Star Becca the Bibliophile
I loved the idea of this book. It's not often you come across a book about an MC that's positive. If I were in Kel's situation, I would have done the exact same thing. on top of which, it was great to see that even though he was positive, that it wasn't the end for him. He could still live his life, and be happy and in love. There's such stigmata around this disease, and I really feel people, myself included, need more stories like this in our lives.
Arik is a character that I expect out of KA. He's that typical really nice guy who's a real go-getter and just goes after what he wants and loves with all he has.
What turned me off about the story was Arik seemed to throw money at everything. He says he's going to pay Everytime they go out and he buys him a car and wants to pay for relocation and a new studio and John's new facility. Granted it's fiction, if I were Kel I wouldn't have been comfortable with that and I cannot relate at all to it. It made everything feel unbalanced as far as their relationship went. Also, there was a LOT that probably didn't need to be in the story. I felt some of the scenes were too long and repetitive. There was a ton of back and forth between Arik and Kel's reluctance and Kel not fully letting John go .
Once you hit about 90% though, you really get punched in the feels. It's the first time Arik's feathers actually get ruffled and it makes him seem human to me.
I really enjoyed how the book ended and thought the last line was cute because of their release date and all.
Overall, this story is great. I loved the premise and the characters, but I could have done without some of the extra sceneage ((sooo not even a word!)) I give it a 3*
First, you need to block off an entire weekend for this book. Not only to process it all, but it’s a long one.
Kellus absolutely broke my heart for most of this book. Not only because of him being Positive, but because he allowed his very toxic ex to have total control of his happiness. Now when it came to his HIV, Kindle did an amazing job. He was very upfront with Arik about it and was extremely cautious when it came to sex. I also liked that Arik was also proactive in his role as a single gay man and was on PReP before he even knew Kellus. I don’t think we see enough of how HIV doesn’t have to be a death sentence and that you can have a happy and healthy life while living with it. Kudos ladies...kudos.
Now as far as the relationship between these two, it was quite a fast and furious thing. Arik was not the settling down kinda guy and Kellus, well with all that his ex had put him though he was NOT looking for anything at all. Arik was taken by Kellus at their first meeting and he felt like his life had been forever changed in just that one meeting. Kellus of course was quite taken by the handsome Arik as well, but with all he was going through and that he had been though, didn’t want to start anything at all. Arik was a bit much when it came to his want for Kellus. He really pushed through all Kellus’ barriers rather quickly. They went from 1st date to Kellus practically living with Arik overnight, but it all felt very natural for that to happen between these two.
I kinda was waiting for the “other shoe to drop”, and when it seemed that it wasn’t going to happen I was relieved. But of course, boom, there it was and I gotta say, there were a few tears shed.
The hot sexy time between these two was just that. HOT and SEXY! I liked that before they went too far with anything, they sought out Kellus’ case worker at the health dept for advice on being safe.
For me the downside to this book was the length. I just think it was a little too long.
All in all I give this book 3.75 stars.

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it's true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women's hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life - I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations - regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal... I don't want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I'm going to tell you about Kindle.
I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I'll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died - weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn't have to be alone.
That time in my life was terrible. It's everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.
Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness - it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.
Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn't a time she wasn't there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It's its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn't be here today without her.
