Promises Part 2 by A.E. Via

Roman “Quick” Webb is one badass bounty hunter on the crime-filled streets of Atlanta. He’s fearless when it comes to carrying out his dangerous job alongside his longtime best friend and business partner, Duke. However, there is one thing that has begun to cause Quick concern and it’s the dreadful thought of living out the rest of his life alone. Seeing his best friend and his son fall in love and sharing the special connection that only true soulmates can, has made him all the more aware of what’s lacking in his life.

Love.

Dr. Cayson Chauncey has been wildly attracted to the big, tattooed hunter for almost a year, ever since he performed the surgery that saved Quick’s best friend’s life. Cayson must’ve mistaken Quick’s gratitude for something more, because the one time he tried to make his desires known, he was harshly rebuffed and left on the man’s doorstep feeling stupid for hitting on an obviously very straight man.
Cayson never dated a man who was willing to come out of hiding and be with him. Now at almost forty, Cayson is intent on no longer being anyone’s dirty secret. Having experienced countless disappointments, and having taken a stand not to fall for any more tricks, Cayson is more than a little skeptical when Quick comes around asking for a second chance to prove himself. The gorgeous man had already made it clear he was definitely uninterested in Cayson… or so he’d thought.
Dr. Chauncey stirred up Quick’s suppressed, most carnal desires from a place deep down inside of him. He’d reacted so badly the first time that now his sexy surgeon wanted nothing to do with him. It was going to take a fair amount of patience and a whole lot of wooing involved as Quick sets out to convince Cayson that he’s worth another chance and that he is the brave lover who Cayson has been looking for.
With a scorned ex and a very dangerous job thrown into the mix, Cayson’s happiness and all of Quick’s promises may not be as easy to keep as they’d hoped.

PARTS ONE AND TWO IN THIS SERIES CAN BOTH BE READ AS STANDALONES. THERE ARE NO CLIFFHANGERS IN EITHER BOOKS.

Review

Normally AE gives us super Alphas. and make no mistake, she still does..but she has also been giving us something a bit out of the norm for her. Where in book one we had a suave style alpha instead of a what I will consider 'caveman style' alpha, in this book we get a sweet nerdy doctor.

I think Cayson is kind of a breath of fresh air. He's sweet and vulnerable and cares about everyone but underneath it all is a quiet strength. Where Quick is an outward strength, being a Grand Master an all. HOT!!!

They way Roman 'Quick' Webb takes care of Dr. Cayson Chauncey is super romantic, and it reminds me of a certain son (the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and all). While their love seems to grow rather rapidly it doesn't feel rushed. Their chemistry is amazing as these two, though very different, deep down want the same end game, and the chemistry is off the charts.

With all the romance though, comes some villainary. When Cays decides to tell his "friend with 'benefits' " the he no longer wants the arrangement, as he feels he deserves better, Dr. Joe decides to try and up his game. It's too late for ole Joe though once Quick is in the picture. The obsession gets a little more intense though and Dr. Joe won't seem to quit.

This is the part of the story that kind of, for lack of a better word, baffles me. I don't fully understand Joe's "crazy" and where it seems from. I know he doesn't want to be outed, but he did a few questionable things that could have gotten him outted anyways. I didn't really understand the root of the problem and Dr. Joe seemed a bit "over villainary". I also didn't like how Ford flew off the handle pointing his anger in the wrong direction. I kind of lost respect for him aiming it towards poor, sweet, Dr. Cayson.

That being said, I did love the intensity of the situation and the action as I've come to expect from AE. Also, a little cameo from none other than God and Day!!

The ending was quite happy (in more ways then one, heh heh) and also felt a little left open to elaborate on in future books. And by future books, I'm really hoping for our speechless Brian King. I'd reaaaallly love to get into his head.

All in all I give it 4*

Bradford (Ford) King was sure he had the rest of his life mapped out. Life was simple, no distractions or complications – at age forty-six – that’s all Ford wanted. What hedidn’twant was his work partner, sniper/watchman, Dana, giving him s**t all the time.

Dana Cadby had grown up labeled a roughneck from the wrong side of the tracks. He’d fought, scrounged, and survived despite a father that constantly told him he couldn’t. Dana pulled himself up by his own boot straps and made a name for himself in the marksman community. He’d been Duke’s bounty watchman for five years. It was his job to ensure th…
